It’s no secret that we’re big fans of Ben. From working with him at weddings and styled shoots, we’ve seen first hand how his approach to people, weddings and photography creates effortlessly cool, stylish wedding stories full of those invisible moments that so many would miss.

Ben’s always had a design eye and eventually got into fashion photography for Net-a-porter after studying photography at uni. He describes himself as being obsessed with ‘how colour, light and cameras worked’. And he still is. This obsession blended with his design eye and love of fashion really makes Benjamin stand out from the crowd of wedding photographers.

Benjamin Wheeler photography was set up in 2015 and casually kicked off with a week long wedding in the Gili Islands.

The way I approach details at weddings such as tablescapes and bridal portraits was certainly influenced from my time working in fashion. Through this work I started to understand how graphical layouts were far more engaging, looking for the angle people would shy away from and tonal ranges of different texture. Also, from understanding light and using the cameras to your advantage on a technical level shooting product and people, to understanding how a natural moment of movement can hold so much more authenticity than a posed portrait”.

As far as business strategy goes, Ben’s never given it much thought. After an inspiring workshop with Ed Peers at the start of Ben’s career, he maintained an authentic and simplified online presence, working with the right couples and aligning with the right brands and that’s still how most of his clients find him today.

Ben’s ambition? Continuing to shoot amazing weddings for stylish couples and sharing his knowledge - through workshops or mainstream teaching, he’s not sure which yet. One thing we know is that we can’t wait to see what Ben does next.
