Jonathan + Arielle’s unforgettable Tuscan wedding

After falling in love with Italy on a family holiday, Arielle + Jonathan chose to treat their US guests to an unforgettable Tuscan wedding at Tenuta di Artimino. The couple share their serious highs and some lows with us as we find out more behind their planning decisions and why being entirely happy with your plan b is crucial.

“We about doubled our original budget, but I think we were a bit unrealistic with our budget initially. We were also informed within the month of our wedding about logistics that ended up costing us several thousands more at the end that we weren't planning for.”

The Dating

“We met through mutual friends. I showed up to a "boys dinner" in February 2020. We ended up playing a drinking game at a friend's house before going out together and I was really bad at the game so at some point Jon offered to start drinking for me haha. Then COVID hit and I didn't see him for several months because I went to be with my family in Wisconsin. When I returned in May, we started hanging out in our mutual friend group and then had our first date in June (after I had been asking him to ask me out for a month).”

“We didn't really have an indoor ceremony setting ready to go which was really stressful when it started downpouring.”

Why did you choose Italy?

“I had been to Italy once before our wedding in 2015. My parents ended up flying from Wisconsin and surprising me while I was there and we had a very memorable family vacation. We thought about having it in Austin, but I wanted a more intimate wedding with rolling hills in the wine country. We love to travel and Jon was immediately supportive of my suggestion to do it in Italy.”

Why did you choose your venue?

“ I was set on a venue from really the beginning of our Italy planning, but was concerned about the travel aspect for our guests. Most of our guests live in the United States so we wanted a venue that was accessible to Florence to minimize the additional travel they'd have to do. Artimino was a better fit for what we wanted the guest experience to be (rooms near the venue, close campus for events, rolling hills in the background, etc.).”

Did anything go wrong?

“The only thing that really went "wrong" was refusing to believe it would rain even though that day, it was clearly going to rain. I didn't like any of our indoor options for the ceremony and therefore we didn't really have an indoor ceremony setting ready to go which was really stressful when it started downpouring. Luckily, we had the smallest pocket of light rain to do our ceremony and we rented a tent for the reception.”

Advice for future couples

“Pick a venue that you would be happy with having the wedding/reception inside or outside. Weather, as we all know, is unpredictable and you want to make sure your vision is achievable whether it's inside or outside.”

The styling

“Our reception was breathtaking from the tables to the dancefloor.”
