Victoria + Sergio’s multi-day wedding celebrations in Ischia

Some love stories start in the most unexpected places, like a hotel holiday party for US couple Victoria and Sergio. What began as a professional collaboration turned into a romance that unfolded over chance encounters and shared projects. After a surprise proposal in New York, they brought their story full circle with a wedding in Ischia, at the Mezzatorre Hotel—an island tied to Victoria’s family memories and summer traditions. There, they hosted four unforgettable events, each celebrating the true essence of Italy, with personalised touches, great food and one-heck of a bridal wardrobe.
The Proposal
“Sergio had planned a dinner at the The Mark restaurant by Jean-Georges. After dinner, I tried to order dessert, but he said we had to go see the “artwork he installed” in one of the suites. It then hit me that he was about to propose. The suite was set up with flowers and champagne, and he got down on one knee. My sister and a few of our friends came to the suite afterward, and we ordered truffle pizza and celebrated over martinis and champagne.”
The Welcome Events
“The venue for Thursday’s dinner was a small restaurant called Portobello in the port of Ischia. It was the only time we left the property during the wedding weekend and so we wanted to give our guests a quintessential Ischia experience before officially kicking-off the festivities. On the Friday we hosted a traditional Neapolitan pizza lunch by the pool followed by our ‘Glamour Italiano’ themed night. We wanted the spread to be traditional and decadent and surprised our guests with an Italian folkband.”
Why Italy
“Sergio and I are both Italian. My family has a house in a small town in Campania called Molinara and I grew up going to Ischia. The first time Sergio attended a family trip was in Ischia, at The Mezzatorre, and we decided then and there that we would one day get married there. ”
The Ceremony
“The ceremony was on “Terrazza Vittoria,” the hotel’s private terrace overlooking the sea. We love the signature pink umbrellas at The Mezzatorre and tried to incorporate them where we could. We made sure to have them open at our ceremony (for both aesthetics and much-needed shade), and then we printed everyone’s table numbers on the inside of a miniature pink umbrella. We also matched the pink of the umbrellas with pink anthuriums along the aisle.”
Advice For Couples
“Understand that most of the magic happens at the last minute. I live in New York, where everything is fast moving and where you expect an answer to your question immediately, but Italians do not have this same level of urgency.”
The Vision
“Terracotta everything! We played into the colours of the hotel and its surroundings. We wanted every moment of the weekend to be glamorous – from the decadent Neapolitan food spreads to the late-night disco under the hotel’s tower, to the Aperol spritzes being served at every minute – we wanted our guests to feel like they were in a movie.”
Stand Out Supplier
“Our photographers La Dichosa were our best dressed guests! They are too cool.”
Stand Out Moment
“We cut our cake—a classic Italian millefoglie with caramelised peaches—in front of a firework show. The DJ was blasting “Tu Vuò Fà L’Americano” and everyone was screaming in excitement. If we could re-live one moment it would be this.”
Welcome To Bello’s
“After the reception, we went to the hotel’s gazebo, which was transformed into a nightclub with a bar, disco ball, and a ‘Bello’s’ neon sign. We served pasta alla ruota as a late night snack and our guests brought the party— we might have drank all the aperol on the island.”
