Breaking down the cost of music at your wedding

Everyone has different musical tastes but we all have one thing in common, we want to make our wedding party kick off. To have guests feel the emotion of the day, whether that’s listening to the words of a moving song, party vibes having everyone up and dancing between courses or a lump in the throat for that big walk down the aisle.

For most, music is an important part of the whole day and is crucial to creating the atmospheric flow. Music affects the mood, the energy and is a subtle signal to your guests of how to act in different moments.

What do you need to do? Work through your day and decide on the mood you want to create at each point. Think about the inclusion of specific songs, the genre of music and then the musicians / instruments you need. Getting music right can take a lot of work and what shocks couples is how time-consuming it is - but well-worth it!

Let’s breakdown the best musical set ups.

BUDGET: 1200-4500 euro

Depending on DJ; ideally use the same person all day.

CEREMONY - PA systems playing recorded music. Particularly good if you have a very specific song you want to walk down the aisle to

APERITIF - PA systems, perhaps with 1 or 2 live musicians

DINNER - PA systems and mics

PARTY - Live DJ, perhaps with 1 or 2 live musicians

Recommended Suppliers:

DJ: Lorenzo | DJ: NVR | Live musicians: Omero & Friends | PA & Mics: Central House

BUDGET: 2000-4500 euro

(if adding musicians to DJ add a further 2000 euro)

CEREMONY - Live solo musician. Musician choice should be based on the song/s you’d like and your specific taste

APERITIF - Build the energy of the aperitif by starting chilled and creating atmosphere by adding more musicians or changing the musical genre to lift guests ahead of the meal. Alternatively consider a live band like jazz or Dixie

DINNER - PA systems and mics

PARTY - Live DJ

Recommended Suppliers:

Live musicians: Musica Evento | Live musicians based in Puglia: Rinaldi Events

BUDGET: 7000 euro

CEREMONY - Live musicians - singing duo, quartet or similar

APERITIF - Live musicians (from ceremony) or new livelier duo or band

DINNER - PA systems and mics, with an added surprise like a musician or a tenor

PARTY - Live DJ

Recommended Suppliers:

Bands: Fix the Music | ALR | The Gleams Project

A quick note on bands….Bands are FABULOUS. They bring real, live energy to your party, but they come at a large cost within a wedding budget. If you do use a band, it can be economical to use them throughout the day for all parts of the wedding but in different ways. Many bands are open to this, so do question this possibility.
