5 essential lessons from planning a Rome wedding

With thanks to Stephen from ODICCI Films

We love when our trusted suppliers share tales from the weddings they have worked out; but when Stephen of ODICCI Films found himself in the wedding limelight as he and his gorgeous bride Monica celebrated their Italian wedding, we knew we needed to hear their planning debrief. Normally behind the lens, Stephen shares their highs and lows, plus the advice he would give to anyone embarking on an Italian wedding journey.

"Navigating the Fine Print: Why Reading the Contract Is a Must"

When my partner and I embarked on planning our dream wedding in the enchanting city of Rome last September, we quickly learned the importance of delving into the details of every contract involved. Amidst the excitement, it's easy to overlook seemingly minor clauses that can have significant implications.

Case in point: our chosen venue had an inconspicuous note buried in the contract, stipulating a prohibition on 'batteria rock,' or Rock Drums. Initially, this seemed inconsequential to us, as we had no plans for a rock band at our celebration. However, just two weeks before our big day, we unearthed the truth – the venue strictly forbade any form of drums.
In a whirlwind of panic, we discovered that both of our booked bands featured drum elements integral to their performances. Faced with this unexpected obstacle, negotiations became heated. After intense discussions with the venue, a compromise emerged: one band was granted permission to utilise the venue's drum set, while the other had to make the switch to electric drums.

This experience taught us a vital lesson: meticulous scrutiny of the contract is non-negotiable. It's the key to uncovering potential pitfalls and ensuring that every aspect aligns seamlessly with your vision. In the realm of destination weddings, where cultural nuances and venue-specific rules come into play, reading the fine print is your passport to a flawless celebration in the heart of Italy.

"Embark on the Journey of a Travel Agent: Navigating Guest Logistics with Grace"

Embarking on the adventure of planning a destination wedding in Rome not only required orchestrating our dream day but also donning the hat of a travel agent. With guests jetting in from various corners of the globe, we quickly realised the importance of providing them with a seamless travel experience.
To manage the influx of questions, we created a dedicated webpage with essential travel tips, details about reliable taxi apps, and comprehensive airport information. This became a go-to resource for our guests.
We also set up a WhatsApp group, encouraging guests to join and share information. This communal platform proved invaluable, fostering a supportive environment where guests could not only ask questions but also assist one another with local insights and recommendations.

Embracing our inner travel agents not only enhanced the overall guest experience but also created a sense of community. Becoming temporary travel agents not only enhanced the overall experience for our guests but also added a layer of camaraderie among them. As we navigated the logistics together, we witnessed the formation of a community bound by the excitement of the impending celebration. So, prepare to embrace your inner travel agent

“Recognising that suppliers are the backbone of your wedding is paramount. Seek recommendations, engage in meaningful conversations, verify that their personality and style aligns seamlessly with your vision.”

"Harmony in Disagreement"

Amid the whirlwind of planning a destination wedding, it became clear that arguments with your significant other are not just normal but almost expected. The high stress of orchestrating every detail can stir emotions and lead to disagreements.
It's crucial to acknowledge that these tensions are a natural part of the process. As we dove headfirst into the intricate world of wedding planning, my partner and I found ourselves in occasional disagreements. Rather than viewing them as disruptions, we learned to embrace these moments as a normal facet of the journey.
Remember, the pressure to create the perfect celebration can be intense, and differing opinions are bound to arise. Approach these conflicts with open communication and a shared understanding that, in the grand scheme, they are just a part of the wedding planning tapestry.

“Excel in Love: Embracing the Power of Spreadsheets in Wedding Planning"

Whether you're naturally inclined towards it or not, mastering Excel spreadsheets becomes non-negotiable in the intricate journey of planning a dream wedding in Rome. This tool swiftly transforms into your trusted companion, aiding you in navigating the labyrinth of costs, streamlining your table plan, and managing the all-important guest list.

Learning to love Excel is more than just a practical necessity; it's a game-changer in maintaining order amidst the wedding planning whirlwind.

"Supplier Symphony: Building the Backbone of Your Dream Wedding"

Recognising that suppliers are the backbone of your wedding is paramount in the grand orchestration of your dream celebration in Rome. Each supplier serves as a crucial building block, contributing to the success of your special day. From the artistry of hair and makeup at the morning's start to the photographer and videographer who will be with you throughout the day, and finally, the DJ who sets the tone for the night – every choice matters.
Seek recommendations, engage in meaningful conversations, verify that their personality and style aligns seamlessly with your vision. These are the artisans who will bring your wedding dreams to life, making each moment memorable.
