Annette + Evan’s intimate summer wedding on the Amalfi Coast

As a wedding photographer with over 10 years behind the camera, Annette knew exactly what she wanted for her own big day and planning her Amalfi Coast wedding with her husband Evan was a dream. From the U.S., and working with a €50k budget, they brought in a wedding planner just six months before the celebration to make their vision a reality. The result? A romantic, elegant celebration at Hotel Marincanto, full of sun-soaked moments, breathtaking views and memories their families will hold onto forever.

The Engagement

“We got engaged on Christmas Day which was our first Christmas together in our house in Arizona. There is a funny back story, where his family jeweller fell ill and couldn’t get the ring made. During this time, I was getting antsy and was wondering why this wasn’t happening when we looked at rings over a year prior. Well, in a typical mans fashion of waiting to the last minute and finally getting the ring on Christmas Eve, he changed his plans and decided to propose on Christmas instead of New Years Eve. It truly caught me so off guard because I said no proposing to me on Christmas and I truly wasn’t expecting it. Then our New Years Eve, we hosted the party and it ended up being our engagement party which was even more fun with everyone.”

Why Italy

“Truly the question is WHY NOT ITALY?? We wanted an experience out of our wedding. We wanted to go somewhere for a week at a hotel we wouldn’t normally stay at and ball out with an experience that all our families can remember forever. Instead of having one wedding day, we had a wedding week and truly got to celebrate in the most beautiful place in the world.”

The Venue

“I deep-dived into wedding venues and actually had help from our wedding photographer, who I knew from when I used to live in Dallas, Texas. She had gotten married in Positano, Italy. When I started the planning process, I asked her what she would do differently, and she said she would look at hotels instead of an Airbnb. So I started looking at all the hotels in Positano and landed on Hotel Marincanto. They had only started hosting weddings a few years ago, so I knew I’d found a venue that wasn’t oversaturated on social media — barely anyone had gotten married there. With the hotel, the views, everything, it was an easy yes. Truly, it was the most amazing place to get married, and we’ll be back for our five-year anniversary one day! The staff couldn’t have been nicer.”

The Style

“Our wedding theme is best described as a “Romantic Italian Summer Wedding” or “Amalfi Coast-Inspired Wedding.” The bright citrus tones, lush floral arrangements, and Mediterranean elegance evoke a vibrant yet sophisticated Italian celebration. The mix of fresh fruits, coastal scenery, and warm hues perfectly complements an outdoor Italian setting. Elegant, romantic, classy.”

Stand Out Moment

“Taking photos on the boat after the ceremony and truly just having us time while drinking champagne overlooking Positano and taking pictures!”

Best Money Spent

“THE FLOWERS! They truly were the most beautiful flowers and honestly a lot cheaper than the U.S. would have charged and I would do more looking back at them because they were so beautiful!”

Stand Out Supplier

“There were no hiccups and I would 100% recommend all my vendors, especially my wedding planner Carla, who I couldn’t have done it without. One piece of advice I would give is to definitely hire a wedding planner in Italy. I truly thought I could do it without a planner, but six months out I decided to add her into our day because I couldn’t have organised all the vendors together without her on the day. She helped with language barriers with some vendors and made sure everything came together seamlessly. Truly, Carla was the most amazing planner!”

Advice For Couples

“Visit the destination before you plan your wedding! I’m glad my sister and I went the spring before to check out all the vendors and the hotel we got married at to make our final decision. Getting married in Positano isn’t for everyone, and the other thing I learned was that, since it is a seasonal destination, there were a lot of details we couldn’t book ahead of time.”
