Julie + Mu’s beautifully authentic wedding in Sicily

A relationship that started in the middle of a pandemic led U.S. couple Julie + Mu all the way to Sicily. After getting engaged, they decided to take a leap, marrying in a country they’d never visited and bringing their closest family and friends along for the ride. At the dreamy Borgo del Carato, with Wiskow + White orchestrating every detail, their celebration perfectly reflected Sicily’s charm and their own authentic style. Even a morning of thunderstorms couldn’t overshadow their connection.

“We had thunderstorms all morning, but they cleared just in time for the ceremony, and we even had a magical golden hour. As they looked at their immaculate table for the first time, the sun came pouring through. I shot from the side, letting them enjoy each other and soak everything in.” ~ Faye, Photographer

The Rehearsal

The Love Story

“We met on Hinge. I liked his response to the prompt ‘if you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?’ His answer was cookies, and he proves that to be true on an every-other-day basis.  Our first date was peak pandemic and ended at a house party with his friends, where we ended up paddle boarding and swimming in the dark. That then turned into a full 48 hour hangout.

He proposed in our living room on a Thursday evening. He got the ring and couldn’t wait more than a couple of days. So on brand, and I loved it.”

Why Italy?

“The short answer is ‘why not?!’ The long answer is that we knew we wanted a destination wedding from the jump, and nothing else was feeling as aligned on our search. We’d never been to Italy, so we figured why not take a vacation, get married while doing it, and offer our guests an amazing Italian getaway alongside us?”

The Venue

“Guest experience was the biggest factor in our venue decision. Borgo del Carato is beautiful, and most importantly, it allowed us to host almost all of our guests onsite. Which meant great vibes, lots of opportunities to connect with guests throughout the weekend, and therefore more time with each other on our wedding day.”

Stand Out Moment

“We didn’t do a first look, so we spent about 20 minutes just the two of us directly after the ceremony, recapping how incredible everything was and anticipating the fun ahead of us. Two years of planning and it was just absolutely surreal. A little moment we’ll remember forever.”

La Lista Love

“La Lista was our bible. It’s how we found our planner, photographer, venue, and florist — how we set budget expectations… the list goes on. Personally, I fail to see why anyone would plan an Italian wedding without being a La Lista member to the fullest extent!”

Style + Authenticity

“The style was detail led and nothing was overlooked, from each element of the guest journey to the décor and fashion, everywhere you looked there was so much gorgeousness.

It just felt so them. From the palette to the personal touches throughout the day, everything felt unique and authentic to them. Julie and Mu are obsessed with each other and are so close to their family and friends, and quality time was at the centre of their plans.”

Best Money Spent

“Our planners, Wiskow + White. None of this would have been possible without them, and I can’t even really think about a world where they weren’t a part of our wedding weekend. Wedding planning in Sicily is just not something I’d advise doing on one’s own. They knocked it out of the park.”

The Dinner

“A stand out moment was seeing our table and all of our guests surrounding it for an incredible feast and good conversation. It sounds silly, but it really was a work of art. Meticulously planned and executed by our planners Lucy + Danielle.”

Advice For Couples

“Let go of the Pinterest boards and Instagram features, and just think about how you want to feel on your wedding day. Just because you haven’t seen it done before, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it.

While the inspiration phase is necessary and fun, ultimately every decision should make you happy as the unique and individual couple that you are!”
